I am 24 years old and I have been playing polo for 11 years. I played for Willamette Valley Water Polo and then Sprague High School. I graduated from Sprague in 2006, since then I have stayed active as a player and coach.
I became the Assistant Coach at Sprague in 2006, and I helped to build the program’s intensity, focus, and overall athletic level of our players. I was in charge of dryland and game fundamentals and supporting our Head Coach’s direction for building a great water polo program at Sprague. For four years as an assistant, I worked to change the focus of the program to one of a positive training environment, offering intense workouts and an intense focus on game fundamentals and tactics.
In 2010, I was chosen to become the Head Coach of Sprague Water Polo. Because of the foundation we built in the previous four years, I was able to get our players to the next level. Our players learned that being on Sprague Water Polo means being respectful to each other and other players. We focused on getting them to swim fast, they focused on doing their best in dryland, and we spent a great deal of time developing fundamental skills in the pool to be a great high school water polo team.
Becoming the Head Coach of NWA Water Polo is a dream come true for me. We will be developing players from the youngest age to the collegiate prospect, in a year-round environment. We have great pools and dryland facilities. We will have the opportunity to become a premier water polo club in Oregon and the Northwest.
Most importantly, for me, is being able to work with these exceptional young people building their self-confidence and self-worth through water polo. It is amazing to see a student transform into a mature, self-confident young adult when they graduate from high school.
Finally, I am extremely excited for the opportunity to develop NWA Water Polo in our community. I have been very lucky to have found this outstanding sport when I was young. I cannot imagine my life without it. It has changed me for the better and surrounded me with a great group of people. I can't wait to see all the new faces that join our polo family and have the same experiences I have had with the awesome sport!
See you at the pool!
