Babette Romancier
Albany Squad Coach
Babette graduated from the University of Oregon as a 4-year scholarship athlete and with a degree in biology. During her summers at college she ran the Elk’s outdoor pool and began a summer swim team there, while doing neuroscience research at the University. After graduation she worked as a lab research technician for Shiner’s Hospital in Portland and swam for Multnomah Athletic Club. Babs started swimming late with her first swimming lesson at age 12. She loved watching the kids on swim team before her lessons and joined the local Enumclaw Dolphin Swim Team at 13. She ended her competitive swimming career late as well, attended her last national meet at the age of 28 before starting a family.
Babs and her family moved to Albany in 1993 when her daughter Briana was just months old. She became head coach of Albany Aquatics and South Albany High School immediately. After trying to balance family and her long weeks away with swimmers to senior sectional, junior and senior nationals for five years, she opted to spend some time enjoying her growing family with the arrival of Zack in 1999. She interim coached for Albany’s senior group two more times while they were between coaches and began coaching the West Albany High School team in 2006. Babs coached Albany Aquatics mid level swimmers from 2006-2012 before coming to Northwest Aquatics.
Babette specializes in stroke problem identification and correction, and helping athletes to understand the purpose in making stroke correction to improve their speed and efficient use of energy. She is an ASCA Level 2 coach and has a strong background in nutrition, as well. In her spare time, she does private lessons for competitive swimmers, triathletes and adults. Her family enjoys spending time together outdoors, especially at the beach. Kayaking, hiking, biking and exercise are a few of her favorite activities.
