NWA was well represented in the first Salem-Keizer Senior Pentathlon held Wednesday, February 20 at the Kroc Center. Out of 20 participants, NWA swimmers included Lizzy Bartholomew, Caleb Evans, Bailey Garfield, Alika Masei, Kate Mathews, Kelsey Nanneman, Maria Wetzel and Maddy Witwer-Dukes.
The swimmers, culled from all six high schools, as well as Blanchet and Salem Academy, competed in five events: 200 free, 100 fly, 100 breast, 100 back and 50 free. The times were combined in a point system that determined the top overall swimmers.
Top All Around girl swimmers were Maria Wetzel, Kate Mathews and Kelsey Nanneman. Top All Around boy swimmers were Alika Masei, Bailey Garfield and a swimmer from McNary.
The swim points were then combined with GPA to determine the All Academic teams:
Girls: Maria Wetzel, Kelsey Nanneman and a swimmer from Sprague. Boys: Alika Masei, Bailey Garfield, and a swimmer from South.
